A down payment is a sum of money that homebuyers contribute upfront when purchasing a property.

This represents the buyer’s initial financial stake (or skin in the game) in the property.

Importance of a Down Payment:

For example, a home with a purchase price of $300,000 and a 10% down payment would require the buyer to contribute $30,000 upfront towards the purchase.

$300,000 (Purchase Price) X .10 (10% down payment) = $30,000 

 

The down payment represents the buyer’s initial financial commitment to purchasing a home and plays a significant role in securing a mortgage loan and completing the transaction.
